A good assisted recording gives the AI everything it needs to produce an accurate, well-structured script. These practices help ensure a smooth session and a high-quality output.

Speak before you navigate

The AI uses your narration to understand the purpose of each screen. Always explain what you’re about to show before you click or scroll for example, say “this is the dashboard where users can see their activity” before interacting with it. If you navigate without speaking, the AI has no context for that screen.

Narrate at a natural pace

Speak at a comfortable, conversational pace, the same pace you’d use when walking a colleague through something on a call. Speaking too fast can cause transcription errors; speaking too slowly can make the generated script feel disjointed.

Be specific about what to include and skip

You can instruct the AI during the recording itself. If certain sections of a document or flow shouldn’t be covered, say so clearly for example, “skip the next two pages” or “you don’t need to cover the settings section.” The AI will reflect these instructions in the generated script.

Keep the session focused

Cover one product flow or document per session where possible. Jumping between unrelated topics can produce a script that lacks a clear through-line. If you need to cover multiple separate flows, consider creating separate Velos for each.

Record in a quiet environment

Background noise - fans, office chatter, keyboard sounds, can affect transcription accuracy. Record in a quiet space with your microphone close to you. Check your system’s microphone input level before starting to ensure your voice is being picked up clearly.

Give pages time to load

When navigating through a website or application, pause briefly after each click to let the page fully load before you continue speaking. This gives the AI a complete view of the UI and helps it map your narration to the correct screen state.

Restart if you stumble

If you lose your train of thought or misspeak significantly, click Finish Session and start a new session rather than continuing. A clean, focused recording produces better results than one with long pauses or mid-flow corrections.
