Don’t have the extension yet? Follow the Chrome Extension Installation guide first, then come back here.
Starting a recording
From the Velo dashboard, click Generate a Velo. You’ll see the four creation methods. Click Capture Screen Recording (marked as Recommended). A modal will appear titled Screen Recording. The recording modal
The modal has two things to check before you continue: Project name - Velo pre-fills a random name (like “Dandy Shoal”). You can leave it or type a new one. This is just for your own reference inside the dashboard. Extension status - You’ll see an Extension Connected badge if Velo can detect the extension. If you see a warning instead, see Troubleshooting. Once you’re happy with the name and the extension is connected, click Continue. The Chrome screen picker
After clicking Continue, Chrome will open its native screen-sharing dialog. This is a system-level window - it appears outside the browser tab. You’ll see three tabs to choose from:- Chrome Tab - Share a specific browser tab. Best when you’re demoing a web app and want to keep the recording focused.
- Window - Share an entire browser or desktop application window.
- Entire Screen - Share everything on your display. Useful if your walkthrough moves between multiple apps.
