Unlike Capture Screen Recording, this method doesn’t require the Chrome extension - just a video file that meets Velo’s requirements.
Velo accepts the following video formats:
- MP4 - the most universally compatible format, recommended for best results
- MOV - common output from QuickTime and iOS screen recordings
- WEBM - common output from browser-based recording tools
File size limit
Your file must be under 1 GB. For most Velos this isn’t an issue, but if you’re uploading a long or high-resolution recording, consider trimming it down before uploading - or compress it using a tool like HandBrake or Clideo.
Tips for a good upload
Use the highest quality you have. Velo generates zooms by analysing the video, so a crisp recording produces better automatic zoom placement than a compressed or blurry one.
Trim unnecessary content beforehand. If your recording has a long lead-in before the walkthrough starts, trim it before uploading. You can also cut in the editor, but starting with a clean file saves time.
Make sure the recording shows actual product usage. Velo’s AI generates the narration script by analysing what’s on screen. Recordings that clearly show UI flows and interactions produce better scripts.
Starting the upload
From the Velo dashboard, click Generate a Velo. On the “Create your Velo” screen, click the Upload a Recording card.
You’re now ready to upload your file - head to Uploading to continue.
